The stars look on, and wonder at our pride;
The ageless ones, eternity in gaze —
The scurrying of ants who scratch the dirt,
The worried nights that follow frantic days
But still the cold of space is pure at least;
With light arriving from before our births —
As we, the hubris-wielders, take the stage
To build new lies, new lives, new ways, new earths
And we look back, when we look up at all,
To find the face of all, the voice of none,
The habitat of vanity, in all its pomp,
The image of ourselves as chosen one
And then the morning breaks, the stars go out,
As we put our misgivings all
To rout
There is the video circulating Facebook…that shows us where we are in relation to the known Universe. Your words reminded me how silly we humans can be..because most of us honestly think we are the centre of the Universe..if you know what I mean.

I’ll look for that video.
I think I do. Stars have a way of reminding us how small we are.
If we look up long enough to notice.

I love looking at stars. Over here it’s too cloudy and I live in the city..so..I don’t get to see them as much. It’s interesting that you say that the stars remind us of how small we are…sometimes I feel people look at the tiny specks of diamonds in the sky and think…oh look..so tiny..and then feel ever so big..ahahahahahaha

You may be right, I hadn’t thought of it like that. I guess we have as many worlds as we have pairs of eyes to see.
I like imagining that people all over the world are looking at the stars at any given moment. I live in a small city that borders on the countryside, so I don’t have to drive far to see them. My mother lives in the desert, where you can really see stars.
It’s amazing, but it makes me feel small, because the stars don’t change just because we might.

I think the place that you see the stars also play a part? I can just imagine a vast desert…in the night..and looking up you see the night sky..stretching away..filled with brilliant stars. Now THAT…would make anyone feel small.

I think it does. I used to live closer to the beach, where there were many homes and lights, and I couldn’t see the stars that well.
I have some pictures I took out in the desert last year I should post some time.
