that steals the sun

the swallowed heart that steals the sun

knows only that the heat has gone;

the lakes sit still; the rivers run;

the evening melts into the dawn

the ache that won’t dislodge stands fast –

the clutter of a lifetime mess –

as present, born of mangled past,

gives way to peace

and thankfulness
