The Woman of the House

The woman of the house
Has got a lot to do,
But she’ll do anything she can
To see them through –

The woman of the house
Has got a busy day:
There’s kids in school, and diapers,
And so little time to play

She’s got no time
To think about
What’s gone away;
She has to be
Enough
For all of them,
Today

The woman of the house
Is crying in her bed,
But she makes sure no one sees her,
She smiles for them, instead

She will be strong enough for all of them,
And it will be okay —
The woman of the house

Turns ten years old

Today

[This is a true story.

When my son was around eight years old, his best friend was the little girl across the street. Her mother was pregnant with what was identified as a high-risk pregnancy. She had the baby, a beautiful little girl with Down Syndrome; however, around ten months later, she (the mom) died, leaving a husband and four little kids, the oldest of whom was the girl.

This song was written and recorded at that time.]
