Gaze now upon the meadow…

Gaze now upon the meadow that was green
The carrier of wishes to the stars
The many-colored rainbows of your hope
Now writ in indecipherable memoirs

The sun that dries the grass and burns the eyes
The passing of the herd so long ago
The emptiness of what was yesterday
The longing for, that rends the body so

The common malady that none can ‘scape
The fate that fortune leaves outside the door
The memory, the dream, so rich alive
The waking up that is the most-feared chore

Gaze now upon the vision: know it true
For such am I – and so my friend, are you
