There was an evening long ago
When all the city lights were ours;
When castles rose above the earth,
Beneath a canopy of stars
When winter welcomed royalty,
A princess and her prince;
But they got lost in long ago
And haven’t been seen since
It’s strange a love desultory
Could once have seemed so regal;
But such was our intense desire
To soar like dove or eagle
But still, I can recall the nights,
The purple fade to black,
And all we lost so long ago
That’s never coming back
But somewhere lost in memory
There’s yet that magic world
Where I am still a handsome boy
Who loved a pretty girl
But time can’t change reality
And it’s forever true:
If ever boy loved royal girl,
Then this poor prince
Loved you
Memories of precious love live forever, it has no chronological age. Beautiful poem.
