Sometimes, we talk and talk, but feel
We do not quite connect;
And after time has slipped away
We start then to suspect
That what we hoped to get from this
Is fading, disappearing —
For two of us are talking, but
Not one of us
Is hearing
Sometimes, we talk and talk, but feel
We do not quite connect;
And after time has slipped away
We start then to suspect
That what we hoped to get from this
Is fading, disappearing —
For two of us are talking, but

If two people are talking but none are listening then they might as well be parrots instead of human beings. Unless they are telling each other the same stories and both are listening out of politeness of course.
